The short version
Compare the complete itinerary from your real departure airport. Check bags, any domestic Australian connection and the local Fiji arrival time. The lowest inbound fare is not necessarily the best trip once transport, hotel nights and the return flight are included.
Begin with the airport you can reach comfortably
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane are familiar gateways to compare, but a fare from another city is only useful if getting there also works. If you need an Australian domestic flight first, add that fare, the baggage arrangements and a realistic connection to the comparison. A separate positioning ticket can turn a simple-looking holiday flight into a more complicated journey.
Use your preferred airport in the search form and check the actual options returned for your dates. Do not assume a route operates on every day or that an airline shown on a previous visit will appear again. If you change gateways, keep the cost of reaching and leaving that airport in view.
Count the usable days, not just the nights
A short Fiji break benefits from an arrival that leaves enough time to reach the stay without rushing. Compare the local landing time with airport formalities, the drive and hotel check-in. An evening arrival may still be the right choice, but it should not be priced as though it gives you a full extra beach day.
For an island resort, ask which flight arrivals fit the required crossing. If a mainland night is needed, include it in the budget before choosing between fares. On the return, a convenient departure from Nadi can be less convenient if the morning begins with a boat journey that has little margin for change.
Travel dates around school holidays and other busy periods deserve an early comparison, but no calendar guarantees a cheap fare. Search your actual party, including every child, and compare the full return price. Be cautious about planning the whole trip around an advertised starting fare that does not apply to your dates.
Keep bags and conditions in the comparison
A fare with the luggage you need can be a better fit than a lower headline price with extras to add later. Check both cabin and checked baggage and ask the operating airline about oversize sporting equipment. Do not assume all fares, even on the same flight, include the same allowance or change conditions.
If you might adjust the return date, read the selected fare’s rules before payment. Keep the accommodation and transfer cancellation terms alongside the flight conditions: flexibility in one booking does not make the whole holiday flexible. The fare is checked again during the booking journey, and any material change should be reviewed before you continue.
A few useful answers
Can I search from Melbourne or Brisbane instead of Sydney?
Yes. Sydney to Nadi is simply the guide’s starting search. Change the origin to MEL, BNE or another supported airport, then enter your dates and travellers. Only the live results establish the available itineraries.
Should I fly into Nadi or Suva?
It depends on the final destination. NAN is Nadi on the western mainland; SUV is Nausori for Suva. Compare the onward journey as well as the airfare, especially if your accommodation is on another island.
Does a return flight include the airport transfers?
Not unless the selected offer explicitly includes them. Arrange road and island transport separately where required, and keep their confirmations with the flight details.
